Practice Philosophy
Today’s knowledge of both dental decay and gum disease means that we can give you the information needed to put you in control of what’s happening in your mouth. This includes Oral Hygiene advice tailored to your specific situation, along with an analysis of any dietary or lifestyle issues that may be impacting on the health of your mouth.
We also have a range of “dentist only” preventive products which can have a powerful effect in overcoming many problems that were previously difficult to treat. In short, you needn’t be a “victim” of poor dental health if you follow our recommendations – we are very good at filling decayed teeth, but we’d rather give you the “tools” to prevent the decay in the first place.
Bonding – with the latest composite resin filling materials, it is now possible to transform teeth that might previously have required expensive crowns. The material is bonded over teeth that are crooked or discoloured, often with minimal drilling involved and for a fraction of the cost of a crown. Usually just one appointment is involved, and the procedure conserves tooth tissue that would normally need to be removed if traditional crowns are done.
Sedation Various options for apprehensive patients:
- Laughing Gas (Nitrous Oxide)
- Oral Sedation (Hypnovel tablets)
We know most people don't like change, so you’ll always see your own dentist, or if that’s not possible, you’ll see his partner.
Digital X-Rays See your teeth magnified on screen in great detail! – gives you a greater understanding of your tooth problems & all done with 80% less exposure time than a standard X-ray.
Teeth-whitening You've seen it on "Extreme Makeover" now experience for yourself dramatic improvement in the color of your teeth after just a few nights of home bleaching, with the Opalescence system from Ultradent of America.
With this system, for just $550 including GST, we can whiten all your teeth simply and effectively.
Consultant Oral Surgeon: Dr DON MACALISTER. Don provides a specialist service for extracting Wisdom teeth etc under Intravenous Sedation using state of the art computer monitored techniques. Check out Don's website: www.wisdomteeth.co.nz
FAQs The most common question we get asked? - "how much will it cost?" Unless we see you in person, it is only possible to give some broad guidelines to fees, but here is a useful list of the range of fees:
Fillings – these range from $125 to $350, depending on the size of the filling and the material used. The most commonly used material is a bonded white composite resin.
Crowns – the range here is $1200 to $1500, depending on the material used and whether or not a post is required.
Root canal treatment – ranges from $625 to $1100, depending on whether it is a single rooted front tooth or a multi-rooted back tooth. There is an additional cost involved in restoring the tooth once it has been root-filled – this would be either a filling or a crown.
Scaling & Polishing – a big variation here, from as little as $115 to over $200, depending on factors such as how long since your last scale and polish, whether or not you smoke and if you have a lot of staining from tea or coffee, and finally whether you have periodontal disease.
These fees all include GST. For an accurate estimate of treatment costs, please phone for an appointment. A comprehensive New Patient examination is $65. Usually X-rays are necessary for a complete diagnosis – we normally would take two digital X-rays at a cost of $35 each. if Wisdom teeth are involved, a special Panoramic X-ray is necessary - cost here is $85.
If you have a specific problem related to just one tooth, then a Consultation appointment at $35 may be all that you require. Here again, an X-ray may be required.
Either way, you can be provided with a written estimate of costs before any treatment is provided.
